Statement of a problem № 11394

        next

In a vacuum, a proton (charge =+e, mass = 1.67 × 10-27kg) is moving parallel to a uniform electric field that is directed along the 1x axis (see the figure). The proton starts with a velocity of +2.5 × 104 m/s and accelerates in the same direction as the electric field, which has a value of +2.3 × 103 N/C. Find the velocity of the proton when its displacement is +2.0 mm from the starting point. In this chapter we have studied electric forces and electric fields. The format of the following problems stresses the role of conceptual understanding in problem solving. The purpose of the conceptual question section is to review the important concepts and to build intuition to help in anticipating some of the characteristics of the numerical answers.
